In 1972, a group of local Northeast Minneapolis businessmen
and a labor leader organized the first Minnesota 100 club, based out
of N.E. Minneapolis. This group of people took the lead from other
100 clubs that had been formed around the United States. The sole
purpose at the time was to provide instant relief / aid to surviving
families of public servants who were killed in the line of duty.
After the state and federal government began the death benefit program,
the MN 100 club decided to continue the 100 club, to show support
to their local public servants. The club will celebrate 36 years of
existence in 2008 and the group of supporters has spread throughout
the State of Minnesota and is still going strong today.
The dangers of public service duties are increasing each year and
with this increase, the need for a program such as the Minnesota 100
Club also increases. This requires additional membership and support
for this worthy cause!
The MN 100 Club does not participate in flashy overt displays when
making presentations of benefits. In keeping with this attitude, the
Club solicits members quietly as well. The Club attempts only to provide
modest relief and hope to those in need at a time when there is little
else to hold on to.
The organization receives no public funding. All donations must come
from private individuals or organizations. Yearly membership is a
$100.00 donation. Since its inception, the Club has paid out over
$340,000 in benefits.
The Club has increased their donation allotment to $3000.00. Monetary
gifts are also given at Christmas to families with dependent children
for two years.
The Club sponsors a Sportsmens' Lunch and Golf Tournament open to
the public each year as a way to promote membership, gain exposure
and thank our active members for their support.
If you are interested in joining the Minnesota 100 Club and wish to
help "Protect the Protectors", please contact any of the
Board of Directors or submit the application found elsewhere on this
web site. This is truly a tremendous organization and worthwhile cause!
